What Happens in Couples Counselling?

At HeartSpace We do not take sides. Our role as Relationship Therapists is to help both partners feel heard, understood, and supported.

Through our research-evidence based 7 step couples therapy techniques we guide you toward building a relationship based on trust, respect, and emotional connection.

A Proven 7-Step Framework for Lasting Relationship Change

STEP 1

Individual Assessment Sessions

We take personal histories, emotional experiences, and individual perspectives. This creates a safe space to share openly and helps us gain deeper insight into underlying concerns.

STEP 2

Joint Assessment Session

Couples come together where we understand  your shared dynamics, concerns, and goals. This session helps identify how your patterns interact and where disconnection or conflict may be arising.

STEP 3

Identifying Patterns

We explore recurring cycles of conflict, communication breakdowns, and emotional triggers. This helps you both understand not just what is happening, but why it keeps repeating.

STEP 4

Building Awareness & Connection

Through guided conversations, we help you recognise underlying emotions and unmet needs. The focus is on creating empathy, emotional safety, and feeling truly heard by each other.

STEP 5

Learning New Ways to Communicate

You are introduced to practical tools to express yourselves clearly and listen without defensiveness. These skills help reduce conflict and foster healthier, more respectful interactions.

STEP 6

Strengthening the Relationship

We work on rebuilding trust, improving intimacy, and reinforcing positive connection. The aim is to help you feel more secure, supported, and aligned as a couple.

STEP 7

Sustaining Change

As therapy progresses, we focus on integrating these changes into your daily life. You leave with tools and insights that support long-term growth beyond sessions.
